Duke of Edinburgh

Over 50 students completed the Adventurous Journey component of the Duke of Edinburgh Award this fall. Congratulations to all participants.

On behalf of the Charlottetown Y’s Men, Mr. Foster would like to thank you for all of your help for the Food Drive on October 28 evening.  As you have likely heard we fill 43 bins with food.  The Y’s Men have been doing this for 33 years and this is the biggest amount of food that they can ever remember collecting.

If you want Mr. Foster to sign your form for the Community Service Scholarship, he will be in Student Services on Thursday at noon time.

 

Bus 181 which has been running 1/2 late for  the last few mornings will return to its normal schedule tomorrow.

Athletics:

  • Women’s Field Hockey and A Men’s Soccer teams, please have uniforms returned to the Phys Ed department by Friday or the cost will be added to school cash.
  • Guess Who’s Back..GrayFit’s back!! Today  after school. Come get your sweat on with fellow staff & students.

Meetings:

  • There will be a Red Cross meeting Wednesday at lunch in room 117. We will be starting our Christmas parade planning! Come if yo are interested!
  • Free the Children executive members are meeting today at lunch in room 330.
  • Student council has an open meeting in Room 214 today at lunch. All are welcome.
  • No Youth for Youth meeting today! 
  • Making Waves is having a meeting tomorrow, Thursday at 11:40  in the Lecture Theatre.

Notes:

  • On Thursday an IB Group will be hosting a bake sale at lunch selling Halloween themed treats. The money raised will go towards making Christmas baskets filled with food and toys for the less fortunate children in Peru. Come help out with this great cause and buy some treats!

  • Thursday is Halloween, and it is Colonel tradition to come to school dressed in costume. Join the festivities, but no masks or weapons, please.

  • REMINDER to ALL 2020 Grads:  HECKBERT’S will be set up at the school Oct 30th to Nov.7th photographing Grads of 2020. Please see the link on the web page for all the information:
    All appointments must be signed up for on line. If you do not intend to purchase pictures, your photo will still need to be taken for the school composite.

Duke of Edinburgh reports are now overdue. To have this section of the award approved, you need to submit these reports ASAP. See Mrs. Lee in Room 140 or refer to the google classroom for further instruction.

Student Services:

  • Interested in a Rotary Youth Exchange? Rotary will hold an “Information Session” at Charlottetown Rural High School – Lecture Theatre on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 7 pm for parents and students who wish to participate in this great adventure. For further information on this see someone in Student Services.
  • Do you plan to attend UPEI or Holland College next year? Why not take advantage of having the usual $40 – $50 application fee waived on Friday, November 8th, at the UPEI and Holland College Open Houses. Students needing to order transcripts, for these events, can sign the order sheets in Student Services for transcript pick up on Nov. 6th.

Athletics:

  • Track and Field Provincials are Friday and Saturday at UPEI.
  • Meeting for senior girls track athletes today at lunch in 153.      Any athletes who aren’t sure when they compete should see Mr. Peterson before the end of the day.
  • Softball   Host a Quarterfinal game Monday at 4:30 at Kiwanis.  Opponent TBD
  • Rugby  Monday
    A Girls Quarterfinal vs Rural #1 5:00 pm at Colonel Gray
    AAA Girls Semifinal vs Westisle 6:30 pm at Colonel Gray
    AAA Boys Semifinal vs TOSH 7:00 pm at TOSH
  • ATHLETIC BANQUET – FRIDAY, June 8th at 6 PM in the gymnasium.  Team awards, other major awards and athletes of the year to be named.

Graduates:

  • Any Graduates interested in singing in the choir for the graduation are to come to the band room next Tuesday, June 5th at lunch.   We are singing “Seasons of Love” from Rent.
  • Grad band will rehearse Wednesday June 6th at 745 am, and June 12th at 1230 pm.
  • Reminder to students who have borrowed a Colonel Gray grad gown for your pictures can you please return  the gown to the main office when your pictures are completed.
  • Safe Grad committee will be selling t- shirts in the cafeteria at lunch for $12, along with raffle tickets for the gift basket.

Notices:

  • There will be a clothing drive happening until next Tuesday outside student services. Please bring in any gently used clothing you no longer need to support  a good cause.
  • Come to the final space disco of the year today in room 244! The theme will be disco in SpAcE!
  • Students going into grade 11 IB will be picking up their Y11 English Books from Mrs. Ronahan’s office next week.  Please see the IB office door for distribution times.
  • IB students who are planning to take IB physics next year are asked to attend a short information meeting on Wednesday from 11:45 – 12:05 in the library.  If you are unable to attend, please see Mrs. Ronahan at some point before June 8th.

  • Full Safe Grad meeting at noon today in Mrs. Bradley’s room 210.  Last chance to meet before exams and the big event.  Come one, Come ALL
  • Students entering Y11 IB are asked to see Mrs. Ronahan in the IB office to pick up their summer reading for September’s English HL course today (Thursday) at lunch or after school from 3:15 – 3:30 or next Wednesday/Thursday at lunch or in the afternoon.
  • Last night was a great night celebrating athletics. Thank you to all who attended the banquet. Congratulations to all of of our award winners, especially to our athletes of he year: sarah Murphy, alex Campbell and matt Connolly.
  • Rugby players who owe on hoodies need to bring their money to mrs lindsay as soon as possible. You will not receive a hoodie until the $7 is paid
  • Tonight is the final production of Mmmbeth starring many of Colonel Gray’s finest actors and actresses.  The show begins at 7 pm in the Lecture Theatre at a minimal cost of $5.00.  Hope to see you there!
  • Attention Graduates: Mr. MacDougald requires an ELECTRONIC COPY of your GRAD photo THIS WEEK.   IF you had someone other than Lifetouch take your grad photo, or if you went to Lifetouch LATE, PLEASE make sure you confirm with Mr. MacDougald (ROOM 152) NO later than the end of this week.
  • Student lockers are to be completely cleaned out, doors left open and locks locked onto the hasp. Reminder a $10 fee will be added to student accounts at the office for missing locks and for lockers not cleaned by that were assigned to you.

Lifetouch Representative will be here during the lunch hour with proofs for some students who have not yet received them.  Please have your sitting fee with you, if you have not yet paid.  Those interested in Grad Photo retakes, book at this time as well.

Grade 10 and 11 students have an opportunity to participate in national math contests in February. If you are interested, please see your math teacher to sign up. If you are not currently taking math but would like to participate, see Mrs. Lee in Room 140.

There will be no intramurals today due to the AA basketball tournament.
The AA boys play at noon here at Gray against Souris.
Reminder for students to submit their dodgeball rosters to the PE department as soon as possible.

  • For any students interested in auditioning for Colonel Gray’s production of The Little Mermaid, The Musical, there will be an information meeting today at 11:50 in the lecture theatre. All are welcome. Please bring your lunch.
  • Announcement: St. Mary’s University will have a representative here on Friday for a lunch and learn session.  If you are a grade 12 student interested in St. Mary’s and like pizza, sign up in Student Services today and tomorrow.
  • Reminder that photographers are here Tuesday, October 25th for those staff and students who missed this in September and for retakes.
  • Important Yearbook meeting today at 11:50 room 129.
  • Power lifting training today at lunch in the gym for anyone interested.
  • There will be a meeting for anyone interested in volunteering at Oktoberfest this Thursday. The meeting will take place in the student council office at the start of lunch.
  • There will be a mandatory meeting for all guides for the Haunted Basement after school today in the cafeteria.
  • There will be a mandatory dress rehearsal for everyone involved in Haunted Basement this Thursday.

  • Distribute Progress Report Cards.
  • Distribute Registration and Planning Sheets that include the progress marks as well as the out-of-province credits. Students can take their Registration and Planning sheet home to use as a reference.  They can also write in their course choices so there is a paper copy of their choices.
  • Confirm that all students have logged in to myBlueprint and are comfortable with the process of entering in their course choices for 2016-2017.
  • Distribute School Cash statements. These are to be stapled to the Progress Reports.  Please make the point to students that all fees need to be paid now and must be paid prior to the end of the school year.  Grads must have a $0 balance before they are fitted for their grad gown.  Students should be encouraged to use the on-line payment option that links to our website or they can pay in the main office.

Staff and Students – make this holiday season special for less fortunate children and teens in our community. Please donate new, unwrapped gifts for children, newborn to 18 years old. We are in need of toys, puzzles, arts and crafts, books, educational items, and board games. Drop off your toys to the Big Red Box outside Student Services. All gifts should be in by Dec. 18th. For more information or any questions, please see Maya Garic in Student Services.
