Athletics:

  • Today in Volleyball: Women’s gray 2: practice at 3:30, Women’s gray 1: practice at 5:00, Men’s: practice at 6:30
  • Today in Soccer: “AAA” Men – Practice, 3:30 @ Simmons, “AAA” Women – Practice. 3:30 @ Simmons, “A” Men – PEISAA Semi-finals vs. KISH, 4:00pm @ Gray.

Meetings:

  • Colonel Gray’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) will be restarting this week! This is a group for supporting our LGBTQA+ student’s health, happiness and activism and is open to all students. Meeting will be every Thursday at lunch in Mr. MacCormack’s, room 151, See you there!
  • The first meeting of the Colonel Gray Film Making Club will be this Friday at lunch in Room 103 (Mr. Weale’s computer lab). Filmmaking Club is a place where we learn about film making, and then hopefully, make some movies! All are welcome, no experience needed. See Mr. Weale if you have any questions.

Notes:

  • It’s Falloween at the Gray, and your student council has lots of fun planned for the week. We started the week off with a Scarecrow in the School hunt. If you find her, take a selfie of you with the scarecrow (try not to reveal the spot) and send it to our Instagram account. Here is today’s clue:  I am in a silent place where fantasies of words are laced, behind a sheet that blocks the light then I shall be in your sights. Tomorrow is flannel day, and Friday – wear your costumes for Halloween!
  • Grad photos are being held upstairs in room 206. Guys are reminded to wear a white shirt and tie as they will not be provided this year due to COVID and girls are to wear a v-neck top.

Student Services:

  • St. Mary’s University will be holding an information webinar on October 29th from 7-8:30 pm for Colonel Gray students. They will be waving the application fee for all attendees. For information see Mr. Peterson in student services.

Teachers, today is a supervision Day 4.

  • Attention to all those involved with the Environmental club, all meetings this week will be moved to next week. See Mrs. Sheppard or Ms. Currie if you have any questions.

Nuts & Scent Free Schools

A reminder that many staff and students have significant allergies to nuts and scented products. Students are reminded that they are not to have any nut products in their lunch as well as not wearing any scented products. This may be related to scented perfumes, deodorants, shampoos, essential oils, etc.

Home and School November 2020 Update

1.         Reminder to pay 2020-2021 Membership Fees

Remind your Home and School Association treasurer to pay 2020-2021 Home and School membership fees by Nov. 1st.  Forms were mailed to presidents, mid-Sept. and is also available by clicking online or she/he may request by e-mailing the office at: peihsf@edu.pe.ca

2.         Parent Leadership Grants

Parent Leadership Project grants up to $1,000 are available to Home and School Associations. Projects are to focus on parent leadership and engagement in your school community. 3.         Recognition and Awards Programs 2021
Nominate deserving school staff, Home and School volunteers, school bus drivers, and school crossing guards for recognition by the P.E.I. Home and School Federation. 2021 submission deadlines apply.  Extra Mile Award nominations are due Jan. 22nd.  Click here to find more information.

4.         Effecting Change through Resolutions
It is useful and practical to effect change by using a formal resolution writing process. Parents and teachers are asked to consider presenting an issue in education that is affecting the learning success of students to influence change at the Provincial Level through the P.E.I. Home and School Federation’s advocacy policies (i.e. student wellness, curriculum needs, equity, diversity, student physical health, school bus safety, etc.). For reference, review the Federation’s Policy Manual. Submit 2021 resolutions by Jan. 31st to: peihsf@edu.pe.ca

5.         How can I sign up for the Healthy School Lunch Program?

Step 1: Sign up for the program at peischoolfood.ca.   
Step 2: You will receive an email with a username and password.
Step 3: Log in at peischoolfood.ca and order meals for two weeks at a time. You must complete your order the Friday before each new cycle. Click here for more information.

Community News….

  • Start thinking about the annual Festive Wreath Exhibition! Open to children/youth, adults, groups, and businesses. Categories include child solo/children group/traditional/Green Living (recycled items), etc. ”Off The Wall” (non-traditional), sponsored by ‘The Dunes Gallery’. Use your imagination, and have fun. Drop off on Nov. 21 & 22, 1-3 pm at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. Entry fee $5. Wreaths will be on display at the Confederation Centre until Dec. 19. Children Learn better when they move around class = Research suggests they may be on to something. As “Science of Us” has previously noted, exercise can act as a memory boost. A study published last year in Pediatrics found that allowing time for physical activity during lessons helped elementary-school students to do better in both math and language lessons.   • Attention to all those in Mrs. Sheppard’s film crew. Our meeting today after school has been cancelled and postponed to next week.

  • There will be a meeting in room 140 Tuesday at lunch for students interested in signing up as a math and science help center tutor.

  • Weekend in Soccer: Saturday Oct. 24th : “A”Men 12:00 – Practice @ Gray,   Sunday Oct. 25th “A” Men – 12:00 – Practice @ Gray.
  • Congrats to the Colonel Gray Boys and Girls AAA Golf teams for a great showing at Provincials. Congrats to Jack MacKinnon on winning Individual Silver Medal and to Jacob MacNeill for sinking a 22 foot putt!

Meetings:

  • There is an Environment Club meeting today at lunch in room 330, that’s Mrs. Sheppard’s room. Bring your lunch!
  • There will be a meeting at lunch on Tuesday, October 27 for any students interested in signing up as a tutor for the math and science help center.

  • There is a very important meeting for Mrs. Sheppard’s filming crew today at lunch in the art room with guest visitor, Mr. B. Be there or be square.
  • Tomorrow there will be a meeting for the entire Environment Club in room 330 tomorrow to start work on a new recycling program for Colonel Gray.

  • There will be an additional student council meeting this week for further planning of our Falloween Fest.  Meet in Room 214 @ 11:40 if you can.
  • There will be a meeting for Mrs. Sheppard’s filming crew tomorrow at lunch in her room.
  • The Colonel Gray Environment club will be meeting on Friday in room 330 at lunch time. This is only their second meeting, so if you missed the first one, it’s not too late to join.

Athletics:

  • Congratulations to the cross country team on an excellent showing last week at the provincial championships! Both the juvenile men and senior women were successful in bringing home championship banners. Individual shout-outs to medalists Max MacIsaac, Maya Abou El Naja and Kal White who earned bronze, Katie Richard who earned silver and Grace Richard who earned a gold medal.
  • Today in Volleyball: “AAA” girls Gray 1 play at 6:00 in Montague, “AAA” men practice 5:00-6:30, “AAA” Gray 2 practice 6:30 – 8:00.
