  • Congratulations to our unified bocce teams who participated in provincials at Charlottetown Rural on Tuesday. Colonel Gray took home the Top School trophy and we had teams finish gold, silver and bronze in their respective divisions. Thank you to our Leadership students who helped run the event!

  • Students are reminded to clean out your lockers before the Christmas break. Please ensure no garbage is left in lockers and that you save your combination in a safe place. Block A teachers from this semester will remain your contact for lockers in 2nd semester.

  • Are you looking to have some holiday fun tomorrow? Check out the schedule posted around the building for some fun activities on Friday afternoon…from cookie decorating, to henna art, to open jam sessions – be sure to join the fun!
  • Mrs. Branton’s entrepreneurship class will have some groups selling their products today at lunch in the lobby. There will be hot chocolate, brownies and energy bites in a jar. Also there will be T-shirts and Christmas cards.

  • Congratulations to Aiden McGinnis for being the Jenga champion of the tournament held yesterday. Also, thank you to all those who participated. The Youth for Youth Club will host more of such contests in the new year! Stayed tuned!

Affecting Change in PEI’s Education System

Resolutions are developed around issues that will affect positive change in our school system for all students’ benefit. Your Home and School’s resolutions will be considered at the 67th Annual Meeting & Convention on April 18, 2020.  What are the issues that are impacting student learning, student wellness and safety?  Check online for help with writing resolutions and/or contact the federation office.  Deadline to submit resolutions: Jan. 3, 2020.

Extra Mile Award

Nominate a school staff person (i.e. teacher, education / admin assistant, custodian) for the

PEI Home and School Federation’s Extra Mile Award.  Submission deadline is: Jan. 17.  More

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week | Extra Mile Award

National Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, Feb. 10-14 provides opportunity for Home and Schools communities to recognize the hard work of our teachers and school staff.  Form a special committee to plan something special to say thank you!

Annual Home and School Reports

Presidents of Home and School Associations are asked to submit an annual 1-2 page report  detailing your Home & School Association’s activities for this school year.  Reports will be inserted into the Federation’s 2019-2020 Annual Book of Reports. If you need assistance, call 620-3186 | 1-800-916-0664 | peihsf@edu.pe.ca.  Please submit your report to the Federation office by Feb. 28th.

What’s on your Home and School meeting agenda?

The PEIHSF works to help parents become better informed and more involved in their student’s learning.  Join in the educational conversations through Local Home and School Associations.  When you receive information from the Federation, add those topics to your Home and School agenda for discussion at your meetings.  Topics may include: PEI government is returning to an elected school board;  school food, student/staff wellness issues, youth vaping, bullying, etc.

Athletics:

  • Speedball Quarter finals today: 1) The Servere Grains vs The Disappointments 2) The Dimes vs The Staff. Semi Finals tomorrow.
  • Power lifting today after school in the Wellness Centre.

Meetings:

  • Making Waves Group are to meet tomorrow morning at 8:50 in the Lecture Theatre. Presentations for the Queen Charlotte grade 7’s are tomorrow and Wednesday.
  • There will be an important Film Club meeting Wednesday at lunch in room 103.
  • Attention to all those involved in the Environmental club! There will be a meeting at lunch tomorrow in the art room.

  • Get ready for Free the Children’s cookie week! Bring $2 tomorrow to the cafeteria stage to decorate your own sugar cookie! Thursday we are having a bake sale and cookie jar sale!
  • Reminder to staff and students:
    We are asking that we keep Colonel Gray a Scent Free environment.
    This means not wearing perfumes, hair spray or clothing that has had perfume products used on them. This also means NOT spraying perfume in lockers or the hallways.
    Please be caring Colonel Gray citizens and respect this, because it can greatly affect another’s health.
  • Children’s Wish leadership group will be selling candy cane grams today and tomorrow at lunch for $2 in the main lobby. Please help us reach our goal of $500!
  • To get the building in the holiday spirit, student council is challenging Block A classes to decorate their doors. You pick the theme and colors. To enter the challenge, doors should be decorated by the end of the day tomorrow. The door deemed the most original and festive will win its class a hot chocolate and treats morning!

We will post a list of the top 5 requested items, which will earn extra points, but any non-perishable food items will be accepted. A box will be placed in Block A classrooms early in December, and collection will take place until Wednesday, December 18th. The class with the most points of collected items will win a hot chocolate and treats morning. Please help out with this worthy cause.
