Parent Orientation Meet the Teacher Schedule

Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 – 7 p.m.

7:00 – 7:15 Parent Gathering in the Cafeteria

  • Principals Message
  • Goals, purpose and procedures for Meet the Teacher Night
  • Student Mentors will be wearing their senior and mentor t-shirts to help parents find their way.

 Parents of grade 10 and 11 students

  • Parents will follow their student’s day 1 schedule to meet the teachers
  • Teachers provide an overview of their course content, course assessment, parent contact expectations, homework norms, attendance expectations, norms of practice (safety glasses required for shop courses) etc.
  • one bell ring will be used to transition to the next block.

 

7:15 – 7:20 Transition to block A classes on the student schedule.

Parents of Grade 12 Potential Graduates

7:20 – 8:20 Lecture Theatre

  • School guidance counselors will meet with parents of potential graduates to provide information related to post secondary programs, applications, scholarships, bursaries, photographs.  Various post secondary institutions request student course information and achievement, general guidelines can be provided.

Picture Day Sept 18&19

Picture day is Sept. 18 and 19 this year.  All students, grads and non-grads, as well as all staff are asked to have their picture taken so we can provide a Colonel Gray student or staff ID card.  Photo packages will be available through Lifetouch photography shortly after picture day.

  • Today is picture day, all students and staff need to have their pictures taken for you student ID.
  • The Legislative Page program is seeking students interested in participating in the program this year. Interested students should seem Mr. Peterson or Mr. Whitrow by Sept. 25, 2013.
  • Anyone wanting to volunteer in the library sign up in the library today.
  • Reminder, the boys baseball practice is at 3:40 tomorrow at the MacRae Field in East Royalty.

  • There will be a very important but brief golf meeting Tuesday September 17th at 11:45 at Student Services.
    Please bring any forms that need to be passed in.
  • The learn to run club will be running today Tuesday, September 17 and Wednesday September 18, 2013.  
    Run is today at 3:30. Meet in the teachers’ parking lot below the soccer field.
  • Students are reminded that picture days are tomorrow and Thursday  (Sept. 18 and 19), all students need to have their pictures taken for their student ID’s.

  • Samantha Gavard and Dominique McNeill are students in the School of Nursing at UPEI. As part of their clinical training they will be spending three days a week (M,Tu, W) at Colonel Gray until November 27. Samantha and Dominique will be here today and will be working out of Student Services. Feel free to drop in to meet them.

  • Our boys volleyball team battled hard at the Tosh Tip Off tournament in Summerside on the weekend.     
  • Four Colonels teams kick off their regular seasons today: 
  • Field Hockey vs. Rural at 4:45 in Cornwall  
  • A Women’s Soccer play at Rural at 4:30  
  • AAA Women’s Soccer play Westisle at the Cornwall turf at 5:30 
  • AAA Men’s Soccer play Westisle at the Cornwall turf at 6:15 
  • Good luck to all of our teams!

 

  • Students are reminded to smoke in the designated area only, which is in the last row of parking spots in the student parking lot. Students are not permitted to smoke in vehicles.
  • Students should use their lockers to store personal items like cell phones and wallets while they participate in gym classes or other school activities. Please do not leave personal items unattended.

 

  • Loran Scholarships are for graduating students who have  an average of at least 85% and  demonstrate leadership, good character, and service to community. More information available in Student Services.Deadline October 7.

Parent Orientation, Meet the Teacher, Potential Grad info Sept. 19 7:00 p.m.

Parent Orientation,  Meet the Teacher Night and Student Services presentation to parents of potential graduates will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 7:00.  The orientation starts with a gathering in the cafeteria for an intro from Mr. Whitrow, Principal.  Parents of grade 10 and 11 students then follow their students schedule to meet this semesters teachers.  Parents of potential graduates move to the Lecture Theatre to hear from the school counselors related to the important dates for student applications, bursaries, scholarships, preliminary mark submission, etc.
